The Dispersant Process

DISPERSANT: The Role of ASI

The Gulf of Mexico is home to abundant and thriving marine life. The coastline of its border states is a myriad of delicate ecological systems, from pristine sugar-white beaches to complex and fragile salt-water wetlands.

The Gulf is both a gateway for and a producer of crude oil, vital to the national security and economic prosperity of the United States.

Airborne Support, Inc. plays a vital role in the necessary co-existence of industry and the environment.

Accelerating nature is the crux of the dispersant process. The application of the dispersant agent in a timely and accurate manner when a problem arises is what ASI is always prepared to accomplish.

With a combination of expertise, experience, equipment and dedication to duty, ASI has a proven record of credibility, with a successful "firehouse response" every time they've been called to perform.

  • Role of Dispersants
ASI keeps a reserve of over 50,000 Gallons of Dispersant on site.
  • Type employed:
    Exxon-Nalco Corexit 9527 and Corexit 9500

DISPERSANT: How It Works

Dispersants simply accelerate the natural process. They contain surfactants dissolved in solvent, and when applied to the treated oil, it becomes suspended in the top 5-10 meters of the water column as tiny droplets. Marine currents then distribute the oil to very low concentrations, avoiding harm to sea life. This process makes the oil highly accessible to natural hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria promoting its removal from the environment by biological processes.

DISPERSANT: Advantages

  • Faster response to spill site
  • Much quicker treatment than other methods,
  • up to 40 times faster
  • Can be applied in rough seas
  • Minimizes or prevents shoreline impact
  • Not hazardous
  • Can maximize the net environmental benefit
